Gov. Charlie Crist backed the property tax initiative Amendment 1 on the promise that it would cause Florida’s sagging economy to take off.
It didn’t.
Now Crist is backing an even bigger property tax cut initiative, Amendment 5, on the promise that it will cause Florida’s still sagging economy to really, really take off.
It won’t.
What Amendment 5 – which would eliminate all school-based property taxes – will do is throw Florida’s public education system into chaos and create a multi-billion dollar hole in school budgets.
